I've now received access to the photos taken by official photographer Mike Frisbee and will hopefully upload copies to the Virtual Tour in the next few days.

In the meantime you can view them, and winners and their friends and families can purchase large copies direct from Mike's site here:

Could somebody please post a list of categorys and winners please.

Here are the details:

Pride in Marple Awards
On Wednesday 7 November 2012 the Area Committee held the second ‘Pride in Marple Awards’ in High Lane Village Hall. The Awards Ceremony was an opportunity for the Area Committee Councillors to thank individuals and groups for the excellent work they do in the Marple community which makes Marple such a great place to live and work. The Area Committee was inundated with nominations in all of the categories which made judging extremely difficult and Councillors were extremely grateful to all those people who took the time and effort to nominate someone.

A list of the awards distributed can be viewed below:-

Beyond the Call of Duty at Work
Highly Commended – Clare Redfern
Winner – Paul Whatmough

Contribution to Sport
Highly Commended – George Dearsley
Winner – Matthew Walker

Environment Champion (Individual)
Highly Commended - Alan Proctor
Winner – Maureen Matthews

Environment Champion (Group)
Highly Commended – the Marple, Mellor and Marple Bridge Energy Saving Strategy
Winner – Friends of Rose Hill Station

Keeping Streets Safe
Highly Commended - PCSO’s Wendy Warburton and Bernie Kenyon
Winner – PC Chris Rigg

Volunteer of the Year
Highly Commended – Arthur Procter
Winner – Mandy Hatch

Carer of the Year
Highly Commended – Harry Lister
Winner – Rowan Saenz

I've asked photographer Mike Frisbee if he will allow his images to be used like last time and Arthur has already asked Sue Ingham for the details of award winners. Subject to these being received, I'll do the same as we did for the 2010 awards on the main site and the Virtual Tour (see first post).

I'm delighted to advise that local photographer Arthur Procter won a "Pride in Marple" Award last night. Arthur's award is for the incredible effort that he has put into recording and supporting local events such as Marple Festival, Marple Carnival, Marple Christmas Cracker and many other local events with his superb photography.

I'm also very pleased to have nominated Arthur and for this to have been endorsed by the other groups that he has helped.

To see Arthur's work go to the Virtual Tour and search for Arthur Procter - every image is credited:

But doesn't he look happy to be in front of the camera for a change!

Number one for this year should be the Friends of Rose Hill station who have succeeded in transforming Rose Hill station by planting and maintaining the flower beds at the station.
Thats a very good shout. It's a much much nicer place to be now.

Marple Area Committee are seeking nominations for the 2012 "Pride in Marple" awards and I have been asked to put this on the web site to try and gather more nominations from the community.

As winner of the last (2010) "Volunteer of the Year Award" I can vouch that it's great to have your efforts acknowledged, so if you have someone in your local organisation, club or business who goes that extra mile and deserves a few minutes in the lime-light, then please take the time to nominate them for an award this year:

Pride in Marple Awards 2012

The Marple Area Committee wants to celebrate the achievements of the community by recognising the invaluable contribution local people make to their community. There are lots of people who give up their time to make their neighbourhood a better place and the Marple Area Committee wants to celebrate their contribution. Do you know an individual or a group who deserve to be recognised for their hard work and dedication? If so, why not nominate them for a ‘Pride in Marple’ Award. The awards are open to anyone who lives, works or takes part in voluntary activity in Marple, Marple Bridge, Mellor, High Lane, Strines and Compstall.

The winners and commended nominees will be invited to a celebration event on 7 November 2012 to be held in High Lane Village Club.

A copy of the nomination form can be accessed be following this link:
