Ludworth children pool together for their school

Pupils from Ludworth Primary School in Marple Bridge made a splash and raised over £1550 by swimming as far as they could manage in an hour.

The fun yet competitive swimathon at the Romiley Marina Pool on Saturday 10 March saw 97 pupils aged 4 to 11 doing their very best after collecting money for their challenge.

There was a huge incentive for collecting the most money; the prize was to push Ludworth head teacher Roary Pownall into the pool - fully dressed.

"It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it,” joked Mr Pownall after the event.

Ludworth juniors Charlotte and Edward Sprechley together with reception pupil Ben Sprechley and year one pupil Olivia Harrop raised the most money during the event, and got the chance of a lifetime to soak their head teacher in front of their cheering classmates and parents.

“This swimathon has become an annual event which really is a great chance for the children to show off their swimming skills while raising money for their school," said Roary Pownall.

This is the fifth year Ludworth children swim to raise funds for their school.
