A jet ski would be fun down the locks!!! :D

Congestion on the roads would be far less

Would the owners of the jetski's get off and run at each lock. If not it would be an even slower exit from Marple than Stockport Road on a busy weekday morning!
Words are trains for passing through what really has no name...

I see it as an appartment block, helipad on top and jet ski as commuting to town. With the cuts, smbc need to return land to private ownership.
But will it have its own station for the cable car? ;)

According to the 1851 Tithe map the canal and the road are owned by the Peak Forest Canal Company.

The land to the west, now covered in Brambles was owned by the Bradshaw-Isherwood family of Marple Hall.

There was a plan to develope the whole of the Ley Hey park area from 1900 onwards but the plans came to an end when the developer had a heart attack and died in 1908.

Some of the land had already been sold, some was leased, some went to the creditors and was later sold. The remaining land was sold off from the 1920s onwards.

The last piece owned by the Bradshaw_Isherwoods was, hopefully, purchased by SMBC a couple of years ago.

My research on land ownership is continuing.

The Tithe Maps are available on-line here: http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/TwinMaps.aspx

This is a fantastic resource by the way!

It looks like the land in question was owned by Peter Arkwright in 1851 and the Canal Company only owned the actual canal itself, not the bank on that side. Tony Jones will be able to correct me if I've misunderstood.

The Local History section of Stockport Central Library has a copy of the Tithe Map and Apportionment records for the location from the 1830s. Check to see if the parcel of land of interest to you was owned by the Peak Forest Canal company. If it was, an email to British Waterways with details of the precise location of the land which is of interest to you would be a good way to start. If the land in question is adjacent to the canal land and not in the ownership of British Waterways a search for the owner of the land can be carried out by sending an email requesting details of ownership to Land Registry (a fee is payable).

It'd be a nice spot for some flats

I assume you mean the area to the left as you walk from Winnington Road to the canal, to reach lock 7.

This area is owned by a number of people, not all are Marple residents.

I would be interested to know why you asked the question.

Email me directly if required.

It's the large bramble covered area opposite the steps down to brabins near lock 7.
