Just to add on - the Peak Forest and the Macclesfield are good starting points.

Our good friends at Manchester Canoe Club in the Dale can be of help for slightly more adventurous places.

Brookbank Canoes of Stockport have the use of part of the Roman Lakes.

Yes, you are supposed to have a BWB non-powered licence to use the canals which turn out to be quite expensive (and they have been known to check - just like fishing licences) - so why not take out BCU membership which is much cheaper and covers canals and gives you insurance and lots more!  www.bcu.org.uk.

Thanks  I've checked out the marple to wood lane route and it looks good so this will be my first kayak route I do.....having researched the waterways a litlle it appears I need a licence which I find odd......anyway I may give it a paddle first before I get a licence....cant see there being too many police kayaks paddling about!!! Hopefully !!!

Hi  I've just bought a very good qualty inflatable Kayak and fancy trying it out locally.....Does any one else Kayak locally and if so do you have any good routes / waters for beginner paddlers......Thanks
