Maybe we should all give this topic a rest for a while and await results in a year or so?  I still think the overall result is a great improvement on the approach to Marple.

forgive me if I am wrong ! But is this forum not about debate ?  Although it sometimes appears to me that when a topic is Hot, interesting or controversial , people want to give it a rest !  Why ? My sisters died for the right of free speech and the right to have an opinion so I say Let the debate continue !

I didnt realise this was a forum for debate , personaly I thought it was about sharing general interest and thoughts about what is going on in Marple , but there you go  ... but what I will say is that it seems to many, that it appears a forum of one upmanship against other posters of late  , tit for tat and general brow beating if someone dares to have have a difference of opinion to another member ... and its putting people off posting   Sad

I'm not getting into "conversations" about individual members  , and I'm not even going to "go there" about who may have upset who .

My point is that often when someone has an opinion which is different to someone who feels very strongly about something .... its almost as though they have to duck for cover when they wish to air their opinions and its not fair .... not all of us are of unsound mind because we happen to think Dan Bank is looking good  ... but actually talking to other members ( yes ... real face to face  talking !! ) they have mentioned that they are made to feel "silly" if they have a difference of opinion, so they just don't bother contributing .....

I think that's a real shame , and personally I wouldn't like it if I made someone feel like that because it would be unintentional .

That's my point, and that's the last I'm saying on the matter  Angry

I thought it was worth breaking these posts out from the Widening of Dan Bank thread because Pink Panther made some very good points that may otherwise get buried by the ongoing posts in the original topic. Feel free to debate further but please be polite and considerate of other people's views and remember that the written word does not always come across in the way that is intended. It can be very easy to give offense unintentionally and some people seem to be doing that rather a lot just lately.

I hold back a lot of the time in posting on here, seems you either have to agree with everything what is being said or get grilled and abused for having your own opinion.
I think Dan Bank is looking much better, so much lighter now..yes it was shocking when they first started cutting trees down, but it wasn't given a chance before some members were up in arms about it.. even now things are not moving along quick enough... give it chance guys.
I've lived in Marple all my life, I'm proud to live in Marple, but get frustrated by peoples attitudes and hot headed comments

can we not go back to silly poems about pigeons and be a bit more light hearted?

Forum debates are not for everyone and perhaps topics should be marked with a health warning/or A for Adult certification then those that do not relish the arguments could avoid them. Personally I think the forum would be a lot poorer without some debate ( although i know that Steptoe will disagree Cool ) I would fully endorse Admin's comments that the written word needs care and can be misinterpreted, I have seen so many fall out in forums before.

How about a Rhino or Elephant Logo against the post - Pachyderms only ( Thick skinned !)

A forum full of JUST silly poems would lead to some departures without a doubt ( my mouse hovers over favourites list at the thought.........) and what this forum needs is more particpation not less.

I agree, moorendman. And anyone taking offence at anything said on this forum needs to take a look at some others, where, sadly, vitriolic abuse and aggression are commonplace. Compared with some of those, this forum is extremely civilised, and long may it stay that way!

I agree, many forums make this one look tame  BUT usually these are forums where people can hide behind a name, and its not generally where people are living on eachothers doorsteps ( that I am aware of, and I am a member of a few) .

We live local to eachother, and those who don't, I assume would post because they have a connection to the area.

Its OK to say that we should look at other forums  ... but reality is, people are getting upset, things are taken the wrong way ( I'm guilty of taking as well as giving in that department)  .. but ask yourself ... if you found out the person you had upset lived in the house next door to you for example  ... would you still say it was OK to say what we like to eachother , would you knock on the door of that persons house and say the same thing .... I don't think many of us would ( and if you would, I hope you dont live next door to me !!).

Yes, we can look at other forums, and many forums are classed as communities, the difference is, we are living in the community that we post about , we could be winding up the person sat on the bus next to us ( for example)  ... we are all different, and there is nowt as funny as folk  ... but its something I have thought about quite a bit of late when visiting the forum .

If you do not have a forum which is open to debate it can become an arm chair socialists paradise.  I read with intrest members concerns and anguish as to what is happening in our area but note that they use the forum just to talk or like many of us complain!   A forum that can debate and bring about change would be far more beneficial to the community and may have in some way  prevented the loss of buildings of intrest, trees and a host of other SMBC ill thought out changes.  If people say that they are proud of the area we live in then surly it's in their best intrest to be at the front line of change.  For example the Memorial Park toilets are going to close!  So what are we going to do about it as a group of people who claim they have the villages best intrest at heart.
