Posted on behalf of Heartbeat Chorus:

Marple based ladies barbershop chorus, Heartbeat were crowned winners of “The Battle of The Choirs” on 19th February in Torquay. The 2011 Majestic Choral Festival included strong competition from choirs from around the country including gospel, male voice and barbershop choirs. Heartbeat were announced as the winners with an amazing score of 146 points out of a possible total of160 to take home the trophy and  first prize of £3000. The performance was the debut of Hearbeat’s new MD  Nancy Kelsall, who’s dream the night before of the stage collapsing beneath her  happily did not come true. One audience member commented:

“ I have paid to attend many concerts and professional performances in my lifetime and I can honestly say I have never been more entertained or impressed.”

Heartbeat, who are the current European Ladies Barbershop Bronze Medallists and  Sweet  Adelines
Region 31 (UK and Holland) Silver Medalists , are now preparing for the Region 31 Championships in Birmingham in May. They will also be performing at Gasworth Hall on 31st July as part of Gasworth’s  programme of summer open air concerts.
