Thank you for the information. It has helped fill in a few blanks... I think he was a cousin of my mother's.
Hopefully, if there are still some family in Marple, I might hear from someone who knew of my grand father.
again
thankyou for your reply

I am trying to find out more about my grandfather's family. He was Harold Alsop [Riley] Tew. He lived in Marple all his life and , I beleive, as a child he was known as Harold Riley.
I know a fair bit from census' etc, but my mother Norah Riley Tew lost touch with her father when she was about five.[She died in 1985]
The Tew family was very large. I know my grandfather's eldest brother [John] Percy Tew and his wife [Elizabeth] Maude Tew [ne Alsop] lived in Marple. He taught music?. Harold was adopted by his mother's sister and her husband, William Thomas Riley and Ann Riley [ne Alsop]. I know there was a large extended family in Marple. I would be grateful for any help or information about my grandfather and his family.
Many Thanks
margaret
There is a Tew on the war memorial in Charlesworth and I know members of the family still live locally
