it looks bigger  than the ikea that was refused .

The Ikea wasn't refused by SMBC, who were very supportive. The IKEA scheme went down thanks to the intervention of central government (Mr J Prescott) and his planning argument that the site was 'out of town retail'. SMBC were therefore always likely to accept an alternative use.

I'd heard it's either a maximum security psychiatric hospital or a nuclear reprocessing plant.

It is going to be a business park that will accomodate high profile companies. It is called S.Park Stockport.

I know it's not local to Marple and perhaps I have missed out on a previous posting, but just what is going on  at the site at Portwood.

Is this not the site that was refused for an Ikea depot, do I sense a hidden agenda somewhere?
