Its a hole 1 metre square by 60 cms deep.  The Time Team website (on Channel 4's website) tells you how to do it and what to record.  Anything you find is supposed to be recorded and then archived with the local authority archaelogical office.  The Time Team have been going round the country filming the results.

Some of us don't get to see much telly, what's the test pit dig?

I'd be interested to know if anyone has done the test pit dig in this area?  No point in our garden because we used to be fields and also we had it completely landscaped some years ago.
