See Rudolf Diesel's original engine at the Anson Engine Museum

This full-size replica has never before been seen in public but is now on display at your local museum.  It was built to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Rudolf Diesel’s birth last year for MAN Truck & Bus Ltd  who took it  out to trade shows around the country but has never before been available for the public.

The volunteers at the museum on Anson Road, Poynton have once again achieved something quite unique – as they now have on display a full size replica of the 1st diesel engine ever made.

The original engine resides in the Deutsches Museum in Munich so now, instead of having to go to Germany to see it, visitors will be able to save the air miles and still marvel at the engine Rudolf Diesel will have worked on back in 1897.  The replica stands at the museum beside the 1st diesel engine that was ever built in the UK, which was also the 3rd ever built in the world.

Geoff Challinor, Museum Curator, commented “We are extremely pleased that MAN have loaned us the engine, it looks terrific.  By standing it beside the other diesel engine, you can see the alterations and improvements that were developed between the 1st and 3rd engine ever to be built in the world.  Having the engine available for people to see in the UK will help those having a “stay at home” holiday to still enjoy great heritage on their own doorstep.”

The museum opens for the new season on Easter Sunday and Monday and will then be open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday from 10:00 – 17:00 until the end of October.
