Special deal on compost bins by Stockport council
« Reply #1 on: October 24, 2008, 09:59:36 AM »
Stockport Council continues to work in partnership with recycling organisation WRAP to promote the benefits of home composting. Since 2006 more home compost bins have been sold in the borough than any other part of Greater Manchester.

Because of this achievement, WRAP is offering a special prize to the 10,000th person to buy a home compost bin in Stockport. The lucky winner will win a date with Dr Compost, WRAP’s home compost advisor. Dr Compost will pay a visit to the winner’s home and help them get started, ensuring they reap all the benefits of their new compost bin. The date can be booked Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm.

As well as selling the most compost bins, Stockport also has the highest recycling rates in Greater Manchester - 35.43% last year. The Council is currently planning improved recycling services to householders as it is expanding its doorstep recycling service next year.

Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for the Environment said: “It’s great to see so many people in Stockport have already taken advantage of this offer. Home Composting is the most environmentally friendly way to recycle your green garden waste. It is easy to do and the compost you make can be used to improve the soil in your garden.”

For further information about buying a compost bin call 0845 077 0757 or go to www.recyclenow.com/compost/. Compost bins from WRAP range in price from £17 to £40.
