Hi

Just to say I also found the site for the 1881 census - www.familysearch.org - fairly easy to navigate - It picked up most of the information I needed - got back to 1818 so far.

I found it quicker than the 1901 census site from the PRO but I expect that searches on different criteria.  Just got to keep remembering that the districts keep changing and the county boundaries moved around a bit - Cheshire to Derbyshire and back again.

I've just been checking out the mormon site regarding the 1881 census and have managed to list a whole host of family members but I think the offer of look ups is still relevant as the search on the web site is very basic.  ie family name and date and place of birth.   The viewer that comes with the 1881 census cds allows much more detailed searches.  For example, you can search for a particular address or a particular occupation.
