American troops were in Lyme Park and Poynton Pool under canvas. It was the first half of 1944 prior to "D" day (6th. June 1944)

The library in Stockport should have the newspaper on microfiche if it was a local one. It's simply a question of browsing through them all! You can book a microfiche viewer by phoning the library and they may also be able to give you an idea of how many reels you might have to go through. It will obviously be easier if you are able to narrow down the date.
