MARPLE NWR SPRING PROGRAMME 2020

The Marple Branch of the National Women's Register (NWR) meet fortnightly on Monday evenings in members' homes to discuss all subjects, for example cultural and political matters, but also have trips to the theatre and meals out etc.  There is also a book club. All meetings start at 8.00 pm unless otherwise stated:

13th Jan: Chairs – arm, deck, high, bath or just your favourite. Describe/discuss/research any you choose.
27th Jan: Finland. Research an aspect to share with the group and bring food
10th Feb: Why did you choose to live in Marple? If you could live anywhere else where would you choose and why?
24th Feb: Playreading – “A Most Bizarre Case”
9th March: Theatre visit -  “ Silver Lining” by Sandi Toksvig
23rd March: World Heritage Sites – research one and share or discuss the concept
6th April: Room 101 – vent your pet hates. What 3 things/activities/actions would you select for destruction?
20th April: Discussion – Gender issues.

2nd Sept: AGM and Planning for Autumn. Holiday highlights
9th Sept: Brainstorming Scrapbook
30th Sept: Speaker from MESS - Marple Energy Saving Strategy
Wednesday: 2nd Oct: National Theatre encore screening - One Man Two Guvnors 7pm. Members obtain own tickets.
14th Oct: Time Capsule - Which three items would you bury to be opened in 50 years?
28th Oct: Peaceful Protests-do they work? Research and bring examples, past and present.
11th Nov: Telephone Treasure Trail. Arrive early for this.
25th Nov: Discussion-What are the consequences if we become increasingly vegetarian?
9th Dec: Christmas readings, carols. Mulled wine and mince pies.

MARPLE NWR SUMMER PROGRAMME 2019

April 29th: Mistresses - We’ve heard of Nell Gwyn and Lady Hamilton. Research, well-known or not.
May 20th: Chad’s Theatre. 7.45. pm - Communicating Doors by Alan Ayckbourn.
June 3rd: The Big Read - If You Can Walk, You Can Dance by Marion Molteno; Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai.
June 17th: Guess The Year - Have 5 clues ready for others to guess the year of your choice.
July 1st: Summer Walk.
July 15th: Speaker - The work of The Samaritans.
July 29th: Ten Pin Bowling.

MARPLE NWR SPRING PROGRAMME 2019

January 14th - Reflecting on Christmas. Memorable moments? Bring games to play.
January 28th - Soap Operas. Why do so many people watch them? What is their value?
Saturday February 9th - Christmas Party. 7.30pm. Theme to be decided.
February 11th - What was on TV or radio on the day you were born? Search online at the BBC Genome.
February 25th - Music and Society. How does music reflect the society of the time?
March 11th - Garrick Theatre. ‘The Dark Earth and the Light Sky’. Meeting of Edward Thomas and Robert Frost. 
March 25th - Play reading. Cherry Trees by Linda Messham
April 8th - Poland. Research an aspect that interests you and bring food. Planning.

September 17th - AGM – subs due – bring a cheque book! Be a bag lady – bring 3 things of personal significance in a bag and we’ll try to guess whose bag is whose.
October 1st - Women explorers/inventors/scientists. Who do you admire?
October 15th - What’s on your bucket list? Tell us about your top three.
October 29th - Jobs for the girls. What strange jobs have you done? What would be your dream job?
November 12th - Telephone Treasure Trail. Prompt start at 8pm.
November 26th - Speaker – Neil Charman will tell us about The Marple Plan
December 10th - Bring a reading/poem/music on a Christmassy theme. Mulled wine & mince pies. Plus planning for spring.
