Thank you to those of you who confirmed that the building on the photo was the Old Parish Hall on Chadwick Street. The photo caption has been amended accordingly.

Three new photos added to the Tour this evening from a lady called Jane Bulleyment (nee Sobo) featuring All Saints' School girls from 1928/29, including her mum Joan Royle, and Brownies from 1957/58. Jane and her step-brother Christopher Clarke are also on a great photo of Marple Swimming Club that we already had, so the caption has been updated.

The next film from Marple Civic Society's Archives has been added to the Virtual Tour this morning, along with one doctored photo provided by Ray Noble (see also this thread http://www.marple-uk.com/smf/index.php?topic=2099.0) If a better copy becomes available we'll replace it.

Taking a closer look at the Marple Hall albums after adding the Civic Society photos I realised that the photos from the brochure for the Marple Hall auction in 1929 were not on-line, although the album description indicated that they should be. This has now been rectified with the addition of 12 images from the 378 lots that went under the hammer.

We are delighted to announce that Marple Civic Society have agreed to share their photographic archives with us and the rest of the local community through the Marple Website's "Virtual Tour".

The Civic Society have been taking photographs of local buildings, street scenes and landscapes around Marple and District since the 1970s. With a particular focus on listed buildings, they have built up a huge collection of fascinating black and white and colour images. Until recently these had been only been accessible to their members but earlier this year the committee agreed to share them with us and at last we're ready to begin adding them.

At present we've scanned the first folder of black and white negatives from the 1970s - 80s and they will be added progressively in small batches over the next few weeks and months. We have another larger folder full of colour negative to start on soon, so are going to be busy for some time yet before dipping into what else they have available after that.

Tonight the first dozen photographs have been added to the Tour. These are all associated with the re-erection of the Marple Hall date stone and plaque in the early eighties by the Civic Society and Marple Antiquarian Society (now Marple Local History Society).

If you were around then and can tell us more about this, perhaps helping us to improve the captions and add names to faces in the photographs then that would be brilliant!

To see the latest additions go to http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup and enjoy!

More problems over the weekend mean I'm even further behind with the Virtual Tour (it was an SQL problem this time). However, several photos taken by Svetlana Roberts and Ruth Hargreaves at the Food Festival have been added this evening. We have some good shots from the Marple Wine Club Wine Tasting to add soon too and then, all being well, we are close to that special announcement I mentioned a few posts back! Keep watching this space as they say.......

Well it did go squiffy again, a few times, but seems to be fixed now - touch wood!

Tonight a number of photos provided by Paul Beetham, Chairman of Marple Band, of the band at the Food and Drink Festival  have been belatedly added to the tour.

We've had some technical issues with the Virtual Tour this weekend which has prevented it working for around 36 hours but it is back up and running now. I've just caught up with a great range of photos from the Food and Drink Festival provided by Arthur Procter and I have a bit of a back log of others to catch up with too. Hopefully later today if server doesn't go all squiffy again!

Ray's photos of Woodville Hall interior and exterior that he took in 1993 shortly before it closed have been added to the Tour today. There is also a new photo of Marple Band and one of the Bowlers at the Spring Gardens in 1958, thanks to Dave Brindley and T Minch for these last two.
