The rest of Ray's aquisitions that we didn't have were added to the Tour this morning, plus several that we did have but replaced because the quality was a little better.

Click here to see them: http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=0

Ray has also sent some new photos of Woodville Hall recently that will be added very soon. Thank you Ray for the huge contribution you've made to our growning on-line collection.

After the Woodville Hall photos we have something rather special to announce - exciting stuff for those who enjoy old photos of the area.  8)

Some time ago now Ray Noble borrowed an album of postcards from a friend, scanned them all and sent us copies. We already had many of them on the Tour but there were also quite a few we didn't or some we did but the copies Ray sent were better. Well at last I've managed to sort through them and today I've added the first batch of 12. Will continue adding them over the next few days / weeks. Follow the link below for the latest additions.

Some fantastic photos of Sid Procter in his shoe shop on Market Street have just been added to the Tour. They were taken by son Arthur, in September 1987, just a few weeks before Sid retired. H M Procter & Son was at 8-10 Market Street for 54 years, Starting in 1933.

Just a day before Mrs Procter met the PM local lad (Lance Corporal) Ryan Heywood attended the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace with his wife Ashley. Ryan, who is Ray Noble's grandson, plays French Horn in the The Band of The Kings Division and learnt his trade in Marple Band.

Yesterday, 23 July 2008, Mrs Jean Procter MBE in her 90th year ( MBE received in 1998 for services to the Women's Land Army) went to number 10 Downing Street in London to receive her Badge and Certificate for War time effort in the Women's Land Army. She was one of 50 ladies to go to London to meet Gordon Brown and to be presented with her badge and certificate by Hillary Benn MP.

We are delighted to add a new album of photos taken by Kathryn Procter during the visit to No. 10 in Mrs Procter's honour.

Not many but if you search for "romper" you'll find photos of the pub when it was called the Farmer's Arms. There are a few pics of the Ridge Quarry too, again, use the search.

are there any old photographs of the area surrounding the romper inn available please?

I suppose this area could be classified as 'the ridge' as I believe this is the local nomenclature.

The 2008 Marple Carnival album has been topped up this morning with some great shots from Len Maynard. Thank you to everyone who has contributed photos - I think you've shown that the people of Marple had a great time despite the weather!

The Virtual Tour was updated earlier today with a number of contributions from local photographer Arthur Procter - there were some from the Iron Bridge Opening Ceremony, some from the Carnival and also a set from the Etherow Raft Race on Sunday afternoon. We've also had some Carnival photos from Tracy Lawley, who is the manager of the Brinnington Samba Band that took part in the parade and performed during the day.

Can't go to bed without doing an update on today's proceedings, so here's the first couple of dozen photos of the Iron Bridge oepning ceremony earlier today. These ones were all taken by Gill Whittaker but we'll hopefully be adding more soon from some of the professionals who were in attendance.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a great day for us. http://www.visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=0

Very impressive Ray! A great selection of photos from today's Carnival waiting for me when I got home! My favourite dozen have been uploaded this evening. If anyone else has any shots they'd like to share just send 'em in!
