The final 14 images from Warwick Burton's collection have been uploaded to the Virtual Tour this morning. These include more railway shots and also some programmes and photos from United Nations Association Fetes at Brabyns Hall during the 1950s: http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=0

Nearly 3.2 Million image views on the Marple Website Virtual History Tour!

As I wrote the Christmas Greeting yesterday, the counter on the Virtual History Tour had reached 3,187,123 image views and there were more than 11,360 local images shared.

Another year focused on the skatepark project means that the Virtual Tour has continued to take a back seat but we've still managed to add over 850 photos during the last 12 months. The total number of images on the Virtual Tour has now reached 11,364 and they've been viewed an amazing 365,641 times since Christmas 2015.

There are still many images from Marple Local History Society's Archives to scan and a significant number of postcard images provided by collector Janet Holmes still to upload. So the Virtual Tour is set to continue growing throughout 2017.

For today, a dozen new images from Warwick Burton's collection (now in Marple Local History Society Archives) have been added to the Marple Railway Album:

I must confess to not knowing there was a Colliery Tramway on Ludworth Moor until scanning these images.

A batch of images from Marple Local History Society Archives have been added to the Virtual History Tour this morning. Quite a few of Stonehurst on Hibbert Lane, mostly interior shots, and several of Marple's movers and shakers who were featured in Cheshire Life in November 1972. Amongst others there's also a great shot of a fire engine pumping out after flooding at Cataract Mill in 1967 and a newspaper cutting showing the demolition of the Co-Op on Market Street in 1974:

The Virtual History Tour has taken a back seat to bench restorations and raising funds for the skatepark recently, so it's taken me a while to get around to processing the latest uploads. So apologies to Tom Lord, who provided these latest images several weeks ago, mostly of trains around Marple between 1960-63, plus an interesting shot of Marple Aqueduct during repairs and one of Marple Wharf when it was a wharf!

For the train photos see the latest uploads in the Railways album here:  http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=-23

Two dozen images from the Janet Holmes collection have been added to the Virtual History Tour this morning. They include these ladies cycling near Spout House, Strines, and a great shot of the Stag and Pheasant Pub down at Otterpool showing how different the road was:

These additions have taken us past 11,000 local images on the Virtual Tour!

19 images from Marple Local History Society Archives have been added to the Virtual History Tour this morning. Interestingly they include the shops at the top of Market Street that will be demolished as part the Albert School plans if they go ahead, and a gentleman at Hawk Green Cricket Pavilion (Jack Kerfoot) who I think must be one of the Kerfoot brothers pictured with John S Fielding (died 100 years ago yesterday) when they enlisted to fight in WWI. Not to mention a lady called Ena Sharples on Stone Row!

15 images from Marple Local History Archives have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning, including this fantastically composed but very poor quality image of Market Street. It would be great to track down a better copy, or even the original as it will probably be a glass slide with lots of stunning detail.
