Some one has spotted that it's the 50th anniversary of the Queen's visit to Marple today!

Further to the Braddock's Garage photos from Graham Meakin yesterday two more photos have been added today.

These show his grandfather's family picnicking at Greenclough Farm in Strines in the early 1900s plus a photo of the same location in 2014:

This evening 40 photos of Braddock's Garage on Oldknow Road shortly before it closed and during demolition have been added to the Virtual Tour.

This morning a new album has been started featuring a series of photos provided to Marple Local History Society by Hilary Ellam:

The photos in this album were given to MLHS by Hilary Ellam whose parents and grandparents were from Mellor. Hilary's parents were Peter Davis and (Winifred) Shirley Davis (nee Hall).  Hilary’s grandparents were Annie Mary Hall (nee Daniels) and Bernard Hall.  Bernard Hall ran a butcher’s shop in Mellor with his brother,  as well as being a part time postman.  The Davis family were tailors from Marple Bridge. Barbara Hall and Shirley were sisters. Hilary reckons that the majority of the photographs were taken in the 1930s when her Aunt Barbara, born in 1925, would have been in the guides.

The first photos added are from a Mellor Carnival / Rose Queen event in the 1930s. There will be quite a few other Mellor related images added soon.

Thanks to Bill Beard at Marple Local History Society we now know that this location is The Bongs on Cobden Edge.

So it's now been moved to the Mystery People Gallery, as we still have no idea who this group of ladies are.

Twenty images from the Janet Holmes collection have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning:

https://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=0

They're a mixed bag covering all kinds of subjects but I particularly like this one of a parade passing the old police station and the Bowling Green pub on Stockport Road near the Cross Lane junction:

I knew there was one of the same event already on the tour and in searching that out I've realised that the parade is probably celebrating the Investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1911. Those three blurry feathers on the front of the bikes waiting on Willow Grove being the clue:

There is also a location that I don't recognise. Can you help?:
