Some rather special images of the Hudson ladies of Brabyns Hall have been added to the Tour this morning. These have been provided by Mark Hudson, Great Great Nephew of Fanny Hudson, as a result of contact made through Marple Local History Society.

While compiling a cd of our images for Mark I discovered a number of photos of nurses at Brabyns during WWI that I could have sworn were on the Tour already but have somehow been missed or lost. Anyway, they have now been added too:

Just added some great photos of Marple Hall provided by a gentleman from Bristol called Marmaduke Alderson. Marmaduke is a descendant of Charles Bellairs (who wrote a journal about his visit to Marple hall in 1838 that is mentioned on the main site) and actually owns President John Bradshawe's bible box! He has even provided us with a picture of the box, along with an interesting watercolour of the hallway and a number of photos taken by his family in 1940. Brilliant stuff!

The Virtual Tour has just past the impressive milestone of 600,000 images viewed. That's 100,000 since May this year.

This morning some new photos of Marple Hall have been added, along with a few that we've had on the main site for some time but weren't featured in the Tour. The link below will take you to these:

http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=2

In addition, we've recently been given access to scan a box of slides from Marple Local History Society's Archives to help catologue them. They all appear to have been taken around 1911 (the Coronation of King George V) and several are of local scenes. Most of these we already have on the Tour and the few that are not will be added soon. However, the majority of the slides are of people in a variety of scenes, some of which could be local and some that are obviously not.

As the box is orginal and intact, and because of the local scenes included, it is suspected that the people in them could be local too but at the moment this cannot be confirmed. They have therefore been uploaded to the Tour in a new "Mystery People" Gallery to see if our visitors can help to identify them. If you recognise any of the people in them please post a message or get in touch.

Here's a link to the "Mystery" Gallery: http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=78

A few more photos from the Food and Drink Festival provided by Malcolm Melia and Ruth Hargreaves have been added to the Tour this morning, along with some photos of staff at Peacefield Primary School around 1960 and copies of the programme for the opening ceremony of the school in 1959. The Peacefield stuff has been provided by Ray Noble.

Have at last managed to enable a feature on the Virtual Tour that didn't appear to be working properly - finally got to the bottom of the reason why!

You can now send a postcard of any picture on the Virtual Tour to a friend, just by clicking the little envelope icon next to the backwards and forwards navigation arrows. You can even include your own message to go with it.

Let me know how you get on with this new feature and if you have any issues.

Thanks for the info badger, it's been added to the caption.

This afternoon some photos of yesterday's Food and Drink Festival taken by Arthur Procter and me have been added to the Virtual Tour at http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=77

Plenty of room for more if you want to share yours.

Uploading of photos from the Marple 2000 Millennium Project has begun this morning.

Local photographer David Brindley worked on this Lottery funded project with Marple Local History Society for over twelve months during the year 2000. The objective was to create a photographic archive of Marple at the turn of the millennium, the old postcards of tomorrow so to speak. Their efforts culminated in an exhibition in Marple Library during May 2001 that featured shots of people and places in Marple taken during millennium year. We have now been given access to the archives and will be putting them on-line progressively, hopefully enlisting David’s help with the captions.

As there is a Food and Drink Festival Street Market on Market Street tomorrow "Local Shops" seemed to be a good place to start. If you can tell us more about the people or places in these photos then please let us know.

Here's the link to the new section of the Tour: http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/index.php?cat=31
