A handful of images relating to Marple Boys Brigade have been uploaded to the Virtual History Tour this morning, including a couple of pics of the original 1929 enrollment certificate recently discovered in a re-used photo frame. There are also a few c 1955 pictures of Leslie Atkinson provided by his sister Hilary. Unfortunately we don't know any of the other names at the moment but if you can identify any of them please do share!

If the mill was demolished in 1957 and Marple hall demolished in 1959, how come the sun dial is in memorial park? That doesn't add up unless things were stripped from Marple hall prior to it being demolished!

A good question Jay! The decline of Marple Hall was well advanced in 1954. Here's a quote from a longer article in the Manchester Guardian of 7 April 1954:

Quote from: Manchester Guardian of 7 April 1954
Lead looters have stripped the roof, and a magnificent sundial which stood outside the main entrance on a tier of steps was recently pushed over for no other reason than as a trial of somebody's strength. It was rescued before it could be hammered into pieces, and now stands in Marple Park as a gift to the village.

This was around the time that the stained glass was moved to Bunbury Church and it became a race against the vandals to save whatever was possible. As I understand it (and the pictures on the tour show) it was only when the hall was a total ruin that it was "demolished" in 1959.

This dates the picture in question to some time between 1954 and 1957:

A quick handful of images from MLHS relating to Hollins Mill have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning:

They include the first full-on picture of the lodge at the Stockport Road entrance to Memorial Park that I've seen.

Ten images from Marple Local History Society Archives have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning.

They mostly relate to St Mary's RC Church, Marple Bridge between around 1909 and late 1920s.

Where was Jessie Field?

I believe Jessie Field was originally part of the Nab Wood Farm estate, see this Genes Reunited link.

I don't have a subscription to Genes Reunited but the public text reads as below
Chester Chronicle Cheshire, England 5 Sep 1863
Bnbtnit to SALE by PTJBLIC AUCTION, at the Warren Bulkeley Arms Inn, iv Stockport, on Friday, tbe 25th day of
LOT 11. A piece of very superior LAND, admirably adapted for building upon, being part of tbe said Nab Estate, called tbe Jessie Field, containing 2a. Or. 2Sp.. having a very considerable frontage to tbe said turnpike-road, and overlooking the Chadkirk

And looking at old maps it does indeed show Jessiefield as being quite close to Nab Estate.
