A batch of photos from Marple Local History Society Archives taken during Town Street's darkest year - following collapse of the retaining wall - have been uploaded to the Virtual Tour this morning:

A photo of the water main burst that was already on the Tour has also been replaced with a much better copy:

Another 21 images from Marple Local History Society Archives, including a couple of mysteries again that you may be able to help with.

There are also three images from Hyde - I wouldn't normally include these but they are just too fascinating to leave out.

This particular image I think I've seen before but I can't locate it on the Tour. Do you recognise where it is?
It's labelled on the back "Dooley Lane Cottages?" and "Harrisons Brow?". It doesn't seem to tie up with other images of Dooley Lane though.

A quick upload of 3 new images this morning, two from Ray Noble and one found in Marple Local History Society's "Unidentified" folder:

Also, a better copy of this image was in the unidentified folder too:

No 1 is Red Row, Parkside Lane, Mellor, and no 2 may possibly be the same.

Thanks Dave - I'm pretty sure that they are the back and front of the same houses, so that's two sorted.

A range of black and white negatives from a Marple Local History Society folder entitled "Odds and Ends" have been scanned and uploaded to the Virtual Tour this morning. The main topics of these are the Apprentice Houses at Bottoms Hall, the Aqueduct and the Canal and Locks. The canal and aqueduct images are clearly labelled as being taken in November 1967 and it's assumed that the others are around the same period.

There are also some mystery people and locations and I'm hoping that local visitors may be able to help identify who and where some of these are:

Unfortunately due to the thunderstorm this morning an exchange of posts between Dave and me has been lost.

Dave managed to help identify the mystery mill in one of the images uploaded yesterday as Primrose Mill, and the captions have been amended.

The Virtual Tour has been upgraded so that video from Youtube (and other sources) can be embedded within the albums.

A short video from the Locks Festival by Arthur Procter has been used to test it - seems to work fine:

There must be an original somewhere but the source image for the photo on the Tour is a photo of a newspaper cutting. Here's a larger version, which is actually much bigger than the source itself.

This is the best we can do unless a proper photo version turns up (click it for larger version):
