It's worth raising it with councillors because if the facilities at Ridge Danyers (now CAMSFC) close, we should reasonably be able to expect the Council to provide an alternative.  But sixth form colleges now being independent of local authorites, there is nothing SMBC can to to stop the college doing whatever it wants, I fear.    '<img'>

Quite direct comments there Victor.
I have taken it upon myself to e-mail our councillors to ask their response to this thread, I look forward to their reply (if any).

So we can assume that the original rumour regarding the site being used for Housing or a Tesco is valid.  No doubt the profits from selling this land will go towards developing the other site in Marple and the Cheadle site and goodbye to the sports facilities.  That only leaves the local swimming baths, and the position of that is under review.  It appears that all public pools in Stockport are currently being looked at as the Trust needs to save money, and as Marple is the smallest and oldest what odds are there that Marple will have no public sports facilities by Xmas.  We are in this position because for years the local councillors have not fought for Marple to have new sport facilities.  All developments have taken place West of the A6.  Your local council representatives do not think this is an issue.  Hopefully through this forum they just might see the light.

this just might start confirming the rumours that they closing that building and transferring everything to buxton lane. at the end of the last school year they also closed the nursery that benefitted the college and the surrounding area. '<img'>

I can't confirm if the staff have been given notice but my friend has just called to say that our badminton club (just the two of us but that's another story) has received a letter from the Ridge telling us that as from the end of December the sport facility will be closed to us and all other external business and users of the centre.

It looks very much like the news that Alfred has heard is likely to be true, which is extremely disappointing both for the staff of the facility and the extensive list of users.

Can anyone confirm the news that the staff at Ridge Danyers sports facility have been given notice?

One wonders who makes such descissions without local consultation. Are we to lose another facility? What are our local councillors doing about it?
