It speaks volumes when people say thanks and or they are vocally appreciative of the time and efforts of the volunteers.

This coming winter, such appreciation will be even more welcomed considering the bite of the cold and the snow.

I at least hope the snow doesn't come until much later.

It was a bit cold yesterday but one way to keep warm is to get stuck-in and our volunteers certainly did that!

Read more about our task day here: http://www.marplememorialpark.org.uk/task-days/task-days-in-2018.html

The next scheduled Task Day is Saturday 10 November and we'd be delighted if you can come along for however long you can between 10 am and 2 pm.

Stout footwear and suitable clothing should be worn and bring your own gardening gloves and small hand tools if you have them. Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Rather different weather this weekend saw Friends of the Park mostly tidying up after Storm Callum!

A sad task yesterday was to remove part of the Midnight Tree Sculpture that we created in the park back in 2007.

Lots of other more positive work was completed too and it was great to see kids playing on our latest addition to the Infants Play Area.

Too damp to continue fence painting, a tidy up of the Reading Circle behind the library was the order of the day for Friends of Memorial Park on Saturday!

Much better progress on painting the Infants Play Area fence on Saturday but there's still such a long way to go!

Our task day on Saturday was hampered by high winds and intermittent rain, so we had to stop painting but there was plenty of other work done!

Our volunteers were all over the place in the park yesterday and we were told several times that the park is looking better than it ever has!

Today we completed the refurbishment of the French Boules Court by compacting it with a wacker-plate hired from Wright Hire.

We squeezed in a special task day with Marple College today. Public Services students Gina and Sarah with their teacher Adam helped friends of the Park spread 6 tonnes of top-up material onto the French Boules Court.

Another busy day for Friends of the Park but with the photographer wielding hedge-cutters instead of a camera not so many photos!

A busy day in the park on Saturday with volunteers at work, the Family Treasure Hunt and Little Growers running side-by-side.

The Treasure Hunt was a great success and we'll provide a separate update on that when all the money is counted.
