Title: Walking Maps / Guide for Marple area
Post by: DLL on January 09, 2018, 12:13:16 PM
Please could somebody point me in the right direction ?

I'd like a map with the network of walking routes locally i.e covering Marple, Marple B, Mellor, Strines, Disley, etc

Would like to go slightly of the beaten track (I have done the walks listed on this site already).

Thanks

It doesn't fully cover what you're looking for but the Mellor Map from Mellor Archaeological Trust could give you some great routes you could construct yourself:

For a quick fix the Oddfellows in Mellor suggests 3 walks which can be bolted together if you want longer.

There is also the Mellor March route - the link below is to an older version of the walk, there has been the odd change.

I haven't been up Rowarth way for ages! Is the Little Mill pub still open?

The Little Mill Inn looks ‘very much open’ according to their website.

@DLL I work in the imaging business and to me, that looks very much like a scan of an OS map with some modifications done by software to add the route of the march and point of interest along the way.

@DLL That's a copy of the Mellor Map that I provided a link to earlier!

The source of the mapping doesn't look OS to me - the contours are weird, and have height colours, plus the colours and icons are wrong.  I've seen that mapping type before - can't place it though.  Presumably some small mapping company.

(For the benefit of the doubt, I am talking about the provider of the maps in the book ;) )
