We are delighted to advise that we have some amazing news on the Defibrillator Appeal!
Local lady Stephanie Lorusso (nee Shaw, of the Malcolm Shaw & Son Funeral Directors (http://www.malcolmshawandsonltd.co.uk/) family) has generously donated the balance of £650 that was needed to purchase a defibrillator for Marple Town Centre. Stephanie says that her mother (Sheila Shaw) had a Cardiac Arrest a couple of years back on 2nd January, which she fortunately survived. Sheila then had to have a triple heart bypass last year, which went well, and she is back dancing and living a very active life now at the age of 80 years next September. When Stephanie saw the Defibrillator Appeal on-line she says she had to contact us and do something as she had been thinking about buying or contributing to a defibrillator in the town centre already and this was the perfect opportunity.
So, this means that the Marple Town Centre Defibrillator project can now go ahead, which is fantastic news!
As far as the Defibrillator Appeal is concerned, it has been decided to continue raising funds for the immediate future to try and cover at least some of the ongoing maintenance costs of £126 PA. Although Marple Civic Society has pledged to pay for this, and of course will do so, if we can raise some extra money towards it then the society will be able to conserve their funds and do other things to benefit Marple with them.
So, if you would still like to be involved with the project and wish to make a contribution towards the running costs of the Marple Town Centre Defibrillator, please get in touch via defibrillator@marple-uk.com
Do you know were it is going to be installed?
Not to take away from this specific scheme guys, but very shortly there will be a new Community Defib on the front of the fire station that will be accessible 24/7 via keypad lock box. Will this then mean that this defib will be a little close leaving less cover further up market street? Just wondering about best positioning?
Thanks for this info, it's good to have it now so that we can take it into account on the positioning.Idont know if anyone can do this or its a daft idea but could not someone devis a app for smart phone that covers the marple area saying were these Defibrillators are in Marple
There are a number of apps with this purpose already (nationwide coverage), such as Save-a-life, AED Locations and Nearest Defib, ready to download on the app store.Ok thank you was not aware of any .

Good Sam Alerter is pretty good as they go. Requires people to submit the locations and availabillity thoughtheres is a opertunity for some one to devise a app for this purpose that works no one from college or marple hall interested .or even you Mark .
An app can't just be created like that. It takes, planning, skills and time. This costs money or goodwill. Plus it needs to be updated regularly with any changes.Ok only asked .
It's far better to get existing apps updated with recent information. Someone's already done all the hard work and it will take a few moments to add any local equipment to an app's database.

I wasn't having a dig.Marple Bridge has had one in the old telephone kiosk for quite a long time
The other thing to do is get the location of the equipment added to Google Maps. I just tried it and found the nearest one in Maps is in Romiley on the wall outside the Forum entrance. It shouldn't be too hard to get the Marple ones added.
I think this is such an important issue that people in Marple should be made more aware of this instruction rather than only the people who read this site. I think the people who should be given instruction in how to use the Defibrillator are the shopkeepers and other businesses who are likely to be in Marple for most of each day rather than Joe Bloggs who might be around Marple once or twice a week, I say this because there are only 50 places available for instruction. Maybe there could be made more instruction dates available to us so that if more than 50 people know how to use it there is more chance of saving somebodies life.Very good idea.
The really important thing to understand is that actually training is not necessary (though useful) the defib will tell you what to do. Once taken out of box, press the start button and follow the instructions. (Even if trained, in emergency situation panic may set in, so it is all talked through for you) It will not work unless it has worked out it is needed, so no chance of shocking patient unless required.
If you need the defib, just use it trained or not

What John says is absolutely correct, the training is not essential to be able to use them as the defibrillators are so smart nowadays. Still an advantage though, as having done the training one will know what to expect and should therefore have more confidence. Thanks for info
This message is not only going out to people who use this site. It is correct that it would be best for shopkeepers and business owners and other people who are regularly in the town centre to receive the training and this is why a flyer will be dropped through the letter boxes of nearby businesses specifically inviting them to attend and posters will be displayed locally too. If there is a big demand then it may also be possible to arrange further training, this can be decided after the response to this session.
I wonder if it would be possible to relocate the defibrillator at Life Leisure
