Title: Demolition of the former Dale Primary School
Post by: Jo Scarlett on April 05, 2013, 10:05:14 AM
Work has begun and the cranes moved in this week.  I noticed that they removed from the site a prefabricated building which was added to the site 4 years ago when the schools were amalgamated.  My understanding of this addition to the site was that it was to be temporary for 3 years only (although it has been there longer than that) and the ground was to be returned to good or better as it was on the playing field (public open space?) And this was stipulated by Sport England in the planning permission. Have there been changes to the planning process and/or did SMBC obtain an extension for the additional time this building was on site? I'm sure if this were a domestic premises there'd be hoops to jump through!

Also does there not need to be a public consultation with regards to the Demolishion?  I'm not suggesting that it doesn't or shouldn't happen only that local residents should be kept informed either by letter or flyers with time scales and the councils plans as the site is surrounded on all sides by residential properties?  There does seem to be some period of consultation when I've looked at the SMBC planning database with regard to the demolishion but it doesn't show who has been consulted or if anyone has?

I'm presuming that eventually we'll have new housing on this site, which will increase the pressure on the already full local primary schools!!

You are all aware that all Local Authorities have to have a designated/dedicated full utility site for Travellers.

Well I've heard that this could be the one.

Simone

Why would the council use a site for travellers, that would be worth at least twice the value of similar ones they have in reddish and adswood for instance, if used for housing.

I had assumed Simone was joking. You have us all worried now. Better start a "Moving Away From Marple" thread.

Anyway Travellers wouldn't move here - no decent supermarkets.

Whats wrong with travellers I always find them an interesting group of people. Hope we are not seeing NIMBY attitudes here.

Drove past the school last night and saw  heavy machinery demolishing parts of the main school building. Looks as if they will be clearing whole site soon.

Does anyone have any photographs of the dale primary school, prior to the demolition?
My children attended this school and I don't have any photos of the building to look at when they are older, which is a shame.
Thanks for any help....

The purchase of the land to a house builder is due before a committee at SMBC in July. At the moment the house builder is not being named for commercial reasons.

Hi Middle Wood, I wonder if you need to post this on the general local issues bit of the board, it doesn't seem to have generated much interest. I used to live in a house that overlooked the Dale site, so am interested but also very glad I have moved!

Does anyone know where we can get htis information from, such as a council website? My garden backs onto the Copse at the end of the school field and I'm pretty hopeful that if they do start building it wont be near us as the trees will have to remain etc.
