I have been told, but I have not seen nor can I confirm that travellers have set up camp on the field opposite Wyevale, any confirmations available?
-
It's the circus which is on this week.
-
Thanks for that Rover-no animals I hope!

A circus without animals is basically a bad version of some mothers do have 'em

Was there ever a good version of some mothers do have 'em?

Yes, the one with the cat, the whoopsy combined with the carpet

Then why are you spreading a rumour that you admit you can't substantiate?

Madam, I do think that your comment is extremely rude and discourteous. I was pleased that "The Rover" was able to negate my concerns over the possibility of the temporary residents being "travellers". Had you read the comment at 01:04hours you would have seen his comment.
When I received the suggestion of Travellers in the area I was in fact at my 2nd home in Wales, but nevertheless I thought it appropriate to "warn" members- not as you say: to spread unsubstantiated rumours[/quote]
-
That make is slightly worse Alan n that you were not even in the country but still sought to peddle possibly incorrect information
You also seem to have the premise that all travellers are automatically a bad thing.
-
No I don't have that premise at all, but there are many who have no regard for other peoples property or land.
Would anybody else like some rose coloured glasses?

Poor Alan. He asked a perfectly civilised question and just look at a couple of the responses he has received.
It's also irrelevant where Alan was when he posted his concerns.
Does this mean we can only look at, or respond to, topics on this website when we are sat in the comfort of our own homes?
Oh no! Will have to leave the i-whatever at home when I next leave Marple!

I agree completely with Lily here. Alan was clear that he had been told something and was just trying to confirm it. I think it is very unreasonable to accuse him of peddling information or spreading a rumour. Especially in such an mannered fashion (Wheels and Henrietta).

01.04hrs....
Get some sleep people!
:-)

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

We one should seek to clarify whatone has been told before posting iton a public forum

Well on this public forum one can seek to confirm something one has heard, especially when it is made as clear as Alan did that this was all he was trying to do.

Has Henrietta got it in for alan@Marple, this seems to be the latest post towards him that is pretty negative :( ... but its over trivial things
When passing Otterspool myself, I saw numerous caravans coming down Dooly lane , I actually thought myself that travellers were in town again ... I dont think its unreasonable to suggest a thing on the forum ........ look at the complete mess they left at Rose Hill a few years back, it was absolutely disgusting , I felt so sorry for the people who had built that lovely house on the road opposite the pub , it was only just completed and they had to look out at rubbish, raw sewage and all sorts left by them ......
-
PP I agree it was awful. So leave Alan alone. His post is hardly the "crime" of the century ::)

I have no idea who alan@Marple is so how would I "have it in for him"? I merely asked a perfectly reasonable question.
A lot of misinformation and confusion is spread because people report what they have heard third or fourth hand from someone's great-aunt's brother-in-law's milkman.
