Title: Plants for Marple Memorial Park
Post by: admin on February 18, 2012, 03:42:18 PM
The Friends of Marple Memorial Park are appealing for local gardeners to donate surplus plants and shrubs for the park.

So if your garden is overflowing and you need to split things up, or if you'd like to grow seeds on for planting in the park, or if you have any other ideas how you can help, please call Gill on 427 4955 to discuss the details.

Some of the plants we need for a specific purpose include Sedums and Sempervivums. We would like to plant these in the gravel border between the car park and the footpath in front of the library. We recently removed the weeds from this strip and installed the gravel and it hasn't been entirely successful as it is getting kicked everywhere, leading to a need for regular sweeping up. We think that planting with enough suitable specimens may help bind the gravel together and reduce the maintenance needed.

We also would particularly like plants and wildflowers that will encourage bees, butterflies and insects to the flowerbeds in other areas but have all kinds of situations in the park and could probably find a use for almost anything you may have going spare!
