Title: Peak Forest Canal
Post by: jcc1 on January 16, 2012, 11:21:42 AM
Has anyone heard anything about repair work due to be carried out on the Peak Forest Canal please? The Peeres Aquaduct (Strines) is leaking again and I'd heard from a passerby that a section of the canal was due to be closed soon so that it could be worked on. Thanks!

Select the Peak Forest Canal. No idea how accurate this is (but it will be a pest if true).

Thanks - that's very helpful information. (And living just down the track from this latest leak, quite reassuring too!)

Yes, that bridge has been dripping for years!  It may not be too much of a problem for users of the towpath.  If they just close it on the bridge itself, it should be possible for walkers to drop down to the track below and then up the other side - there are footpaths down to the track on both sides of the bridge.  It would be a bit of a drag with a bike though!
