Title: Mrs Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room
Post by: Deniseam on January 25, 2010, 10:38:59 AM
From the How-do.co.uk website
Film director Mike Le Han has been in touch with How-Do to talk about his latest project, Mrs Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room.
The short film is due to start shooting in Marple Bridge, Stockport on 5 February and promises to evoke a look and feel that is akin to the cinema outings of one Harry Potter.
Le Han told How-Do that it was "a huge project" that was already "creating a buzz" in industry and local media circles.
To date it has attracted over 30 cast and crew members, all of whom are getting involved for the "pure passion" of the film, rather than any financial benefits - the budget is "zero" apparently.
Hollywood film composer and orchestrator Kevin Kliesch has been brought in to score the piece (a veteran of features such as X-Men and Superman Returns), while Jane Cox (Emmerdale's Lisa Dingle) and Stephen Boye (No Angels) have been confirmed in the cast. Phil Leach is to be producer.
Le Han said that his feedback from the industry had told him that the crew would be "achieving the unachievable" and that the end product would be "a great film."
"We are hoping Warner Brothers will pick it up and tag it to their next Harry Potter feature as a preview film before the main feature," he added.
Le Han has been a drama director for 14 years and in 2009 was nominated for two gongs at the Royal Television Society Awards for his work on The Great Train Robbery and Crimes That Shook Britain, both Title Role productions.
The running time of Mrs Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room will be between eight and 15 minutes.

Hi,

We'd just like to thank the people from Marple Bridge who have been so supportive. Libby's, Royal Scot etc.. without their help this no budget film would have not been made.

To clear up some issues, we arranged for Dally and his fire fighting team from the Marple station to come and clean the street, who were extremely happy to help out. They could see what we were trying to do for the local community in this current recession, to increase trade and visitors to the beautiful village. Unfortunately some narrow minded individuals who have made it very difficult for us to do what we intended and this is not acceptable, especially when one individual brought one of the production team to tears after the constant aggressive abuse (in my next radio interview I shall name these individuals). Other people have complained about noise or rudeness of the crew, which is completely untrue, they have been the most pleasant crew I have ever worked with. I would also like to add, every single person worked for 3 15 hour nights completely for free, this film was made with no budget, but we hope you can see how much hard work was put in to making it very hollywood.

Below is a link to some of the production images for you to view and to see how hard we worked over 3 very long nights to transform the village into something very different.

AS I spend alot of each day in Marple bridge know lots of residents... havent heard a bad word said about the production so far.. especially after the meeting prior to filming :)

THink there was always going to be a little issue with the fallout of ... interesting folk... who frequent certain drinking holes in the area... and couldnt then finish the evening in the Scot ...  However theres no excuse to upset people and I am sure your production team know that most of us support these ventures -  even if we are a touch put out that we are being disguised as Cornish!!! ;)

Mmm - I'm afraid I have heard a few bad words, not form the shops or other businesses, but from people who live in the Bridge.  I gather that there was a great deal of nocturnal noise and disturbance, at grossly unsocial hours, and yet there had been little if any proper advance consultation with residents (as opposed to businesses, who it seems were consulted and involved).  Don't forget, most of the businesses (apart from the Scot, of course) close up and go home by 6.00 - it was the people who live there who were kept awake in the wee small hours!   :'(

THank you Amazon I am sure you will sport Helen and Mike in Libby's sipping coffee and eating their sausage rolls conspiring over their next project. Agrred with response, all residents were notified, plus a sign and news paper adverts stating what was happening. There's only so much pleasing we can do on productions and some people will be affected, but the majority were happy with what we set out to do. Here's to the first screening inthe coming months at the Marple cinema... I am sure a selected 100 residents and business owners will be invited.

Hi everyone, we're very busy building the set for the last days filming at the end of May. Thanks to Ask Construction we are building the set in Compstall Mill's which allows usto keep the whole filming local to Marple, which is something we really wanted to do. The film has gained much momentum in the industry and Warner Brothers and Heyday Films (producers of Harry Potter) both want a copy of Mrs Peppercorn once finished.

We have an amazing offer for you. Would you like to be added to the end credits and receive your own copy of the film once it has completed it's festival rounds? Be invited to the premiere and add to the magic of this exciting film.

Well this is how you can do it, we are offering 300 names on the end credits for a £10 donation, these are limited and I am sure will go fast. In return for your £10 you will be added to the end credits as a special thanks to, your name be placed on the facebook fan page as contributors and listed on the Mrs Peppercon website. Once the film has done its festival rounds including the Oscars and Baftas you will be sent your very own signed copy of the DVD.

If you'd like to be part of the magic, then click the link below and get your name on the film. Some of the community have already clicked on the facebook fan page and we thank you for your £10 donation.

I think that would be a fantastic idea to have Marple Web Site on the credits !!   I also think its great that this production has kept local people informed about whats happening in the area.  The director seems a really down to earth chap and hats off to him for the offer which for £10.00 includes such a lot !  I read that he has not been a resident for long but after this he will be a true local hero.  We have had countless filming in the area but never has any company tried to give anything back as away of thanks.  I am looking forward to Mrs Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room being released it can not come soon enough.  I was wondering if the production company could become involved in the carnival  ???now that would be something unique  :o

Im surprised more people havent  took this offer up. An invite to the premiere, name on the credits and a signed copy of the DVD. What a great present for a child! Come on people support your local film maker, It could also help local traders when the tourists arrive.Quite a few came looking for the sets of sunshine by craig cash in 2008.

Mrs Peppercorn's Magical Reading Room official trailer is now online. It's received so much positive publicity that it was accepted onto openfilm.com run by the actor James Cann.

It's a competition and the highest six votes are sent to a panel and a winner is selected in August. We'd really appreciate your support and vote. You have to join to vote but it is free.

Please go here to watch the trailer http://www.openfilm.com/videos/mrs_peppercorn_s_magical_reading_room/ and if you feel it deserves a 5 star then please do select it, the higher the star and the greater the votes, the better chance we'd have.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the on going support. A couple of things, we recently made a £100 donation to the Marple Bridge Association for their support in allowing us to film in the village.

Secondly, the open film competition has closed and we didn't get into the top six, but there's plenty more festivals out there and these were only for the film trailer.

We have however been accepted onto the Internation Movie Trailer Festival held in Los Angeles and you can vote for the trailer here http://www.imtf.biz/vote.php?trailer_id=64 fingers crossed we'll win, but its a tall order to get the large amount of votes some of the other trailers have gained so far.

Further news, we are nearing the end of the edit, lots of computer generated images still being produced, some of the Harry Potter, Bond and Clash Of The Titans sound crew are also helping out with Mrs Peppercorn to make the sound tracks very cinematic.

Keep watching out for more info in the coming months... film will be ready in the Autumn.

Lastly, we just signed a co-production deal to write a Mrs Peppercorn feature film trilogy so we are extremely busy on that currently, so if all goes quiet, this is why. There's always material being placed on the Mrs Peppercorn fan page on Facebook, so if you aren't a member, get joining..

Best Regards

Hi everyone,

we hope you all had a great Christmas and new year. Sorry for the lack of communication, but wanted to let you know we have been extremely busy finishing off the film. A huge amount of work had to be done in post production with visual effects teams from all over the world helping out make the short film truly magical and we have everything except one shot which the is the opening to the film. A completely computer generated shot which we hope will be very close to photorealistic... fingers crossed there.

Anyway we are hoping to have the official premiere at the Bafta facility the second week of March which is in London and then a local screening, most likely in Manchester as we don't currently have a 35mm print to show at The Regent. At some point in the future we hope this to change, but it costs around £8000 to get a 35mm print to show in these types of cinemas. We will have a DCP which is the new Digital Cinema Project which most new facilities use etc... I won't bore you with the details :D

Anyway we just need to finalise the Special thanks to credit and have uploaded a still from the end rolling credits for you to see. If you donated £10 towards the short film and your name is not on the credits we need to know within the next few days as they will be signed off. we have gone through all correspondence to ensure no one was missed, but with over 160 people involved in making Mrs Peppercorn some one might have been missed... So if your name is not on this list for the £10 special thanks to donation please email contact 'at' blacklakefilms.co.uk with your email receipt from Paypal which shows your donation.

Please do keep an eye on the Mrs Peppercorn facebook page for updates.

Best
