Title: So You Think You Can Dance
Post by: admin on December 27, 2009, 11:55:43 AM
22 year-old local lad Robbie White is to feature in a new BBC TV Dance programme called "So You Think You Can Dance". Robbie was a pupil at All Saints Primary, Marple Hall and then Ridge Danyers College. He was selected from thousands to be part of the final 14 and take part in the live shows. Dancers have to take on different styles with a partner and after a viewer vote, the lowest 2 couples have to split for solo dances and "dance for their life". The show has been a huge hit around the world, especially in the US. Judges include Arlene Phillips and "Nasty" Nigel Lythgoe.

The first programme, on Saturday 2nd January is pre-recorded and looks at the audition process, including a gruelling 3 day choreography camp (referred to as Bootcamp by the contestants). From 9th January the programmes are live and the voting and results take place the same night.

Robbie is the youngest of the male dancers and one of the things he hopes to gain from the competition is the chance to work in the UK as previously his jobs have taken him to Japan and Germany.

Robbie's profile is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/soyouthinkyoucandance/aps/robbie_white.shtml

The programme website is here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pj22l

and the press pack is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2009/12_december/18/dance15.shtml

His friends have set up a facebook support site http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=679788595#/group.php?gid=210723324070

and the BBC's official support site is here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Robbie-White/211766249481?ref=search&sid=717440787.61902475..1

This is posted on behalf of Robbie mum who says, "I am sure this would be of interest to Marple people - and of course it would give them the opportunity to vote."

Robbie is not in the UK at the moment as he has to complete his contract for We Will Rock You in Stuttgart. He will only be able to fly home on  the first morning of rehearsals, having been on stage the night before.  This is the day after all the other contestants have moved into their accommodation, so he will be arriving for rehearsals with all his bags and baggage!

Please don't use pink for script colour - it is almost impossible to read!!  Cheers, though! :D

Pink is easier to read if you highlight it - it changes to white on a black background.

They were made by Capricorn Engraving: www.capricornengraving.co.uk
(their web site is offline just now as they have just changed providers but it should be back up soon).

They used to be in the Goyt Mill but moved to Cheadle a while ago:

Dave & Christine Lowery
Unit 20, Demmings Road Industrial Estate,
Demmings Road, Cheadle, Cheshire, SK8 2PE
Tel: 0161 428 7444 (2 lines) Fax: 0161 428 3888

You'd have to get the council to fit them. I think Brian Nash at Regeneration would be a good contact for that:

Brian Nash
District and Neighbourhood Regeneration Manager
Regeneration, Economic Development and Tourism
Stopford House
Piccadilly
Stockport
SK1 3XE
T: 0161 474 4519
M: 07866 999929

Good luck!

AND we would like suggestions as to how we could use the cake to raise funds for a good (local) cause - what that should be and how: raffle, auction, coffee morning? It's a fruit cake so I guess it will last.

got this msg today... via FB !

The BBC have finally released the information so we are finally allowed to tell you.

Most of you probably all know by now but I just wanted to make sure everyone had heard - unfortunately, during rehearsals on Tuesday Robbie dislocated his shoulder meaning he won't be able to dance in the final this Saturday. Alastair has been drafted back and will be dancing in the final instead of Robbie.

Obviously, this is really sad news but we have to look at the positives and see how well Robbie has done throughout the show and this has been amazing exposure for Robbie. We're sure Robbie the job offers will come flooding in and wish Robbie a fast and speedy recovery.

Get well soon Robbie, you're the winner in all our eyes!!!

Can anyone pass on this message to Robbie White and his family, it is in relation to the Marple Carnival Committee.

The Committee would like to be sent his contact numbers/info so that he can be arranged to appear in the carnival parade.

Private message me on this forum if you can help and/or contact the committee themselves.

Mr Marple, have you managed to get his details. If you haven't he went to All Saints School on Monday which delighted all the children! and signed autographs for them. The school will have his details and he is due to appear again to show them some dances and teach them some moves which they are all really excited about  ;D

Can I just thank everyone on behalf of Robbie for the support and good wishes he has had since the start of the show.

Although the ending was hardly what anyone could have wanted, the fun we had on the way and the help from the community was immense and that will be the abiding memory.

Rob made a brief visit this week but had to return to London for physio and meetings. We hope he will be back soon (he has a return ticket!) and will be able to fulfil some of the many kind requests we have had for visits etc.

He says his shoulder is healing well.

Many of you have said he did Marple proud and I have to say we all feel very proud of Marple.
