Post by: wolfman on November 20, 2008, 10:03:56 AM
Stockport's extraordinary citizens are to be recognised for the second year in a row, through a boroughwide awards scheme.

'My Place in Stockport' is the Council’s citizen award scheme which recognises individuals, groups or teams that go out of their way to make Stockport a better place.
And now the Council, its partners, and award sponsors are asking the public and Stockport Express & Times readers for their suggestions as to who should be honoured with a ‘My Place’ award.
The awards are part of the Stockport Community Pride campaign, launched by the Council to encourage a stronger sense of pride and community spirit in our borough.
Does someone you know, or have heard of, help make Stockport special? Is there an individual, a group, a volunteer, or perhaps a local personality, or someone else who deserves recognition for good and community spirit?
The list of award categories:
•   Ambassador for Stockport - Rewarding someone who has helped put Stockport on the map.
•   Best Street - Rewarding the residents who help make their street a better place to live.
•   Children’s Champion – Rewarding a person or group of people who influence children’s day to day lives in a positive way.
•   Citizen of the Year - Rewarding adults who help their community in lots of different ways.
•   Community-spirited Business - Rewarding the Stockport business that puts a lot back into the community, be it through fundraising, caring services or staff initiatives.

Stockport is a great place to live and work and is home to some very special people. We want to make sure that our special citizens are recognized and rewarded for the genuine difference they make to our local community and these awards provide the perfect opportunity.”
