Yes and they are causing quite a bit of inconvenience.

They are planning to cone off part of the roads to facilitate filming.
I have not seen any road closure notices notices.

We have had a letter suggesting that we park in the conservative club, car park, but it did not say whether there was any security there or whether they would accept liability for damage to our vehicles

They spent all day Sunday filming in the Goyt Chippy on Goyt Ave. Alan Partridge is in it and it is directed by Craig Cash of the "Royal Family" who lives in Marple I believe.

We popped into the Royal Oak in Mellor last night and someone mentioned that they'd been filming at Mellor Church. Tha vans and trucks were all parked in the car park behind the church on Marple Ridge

I'd heard that Craig Cash lives up in Mellor, rather than Marple, but it's only hearsay

Hey Wolfman, I can say that the production of Sunshine won't be the last one to be filmed in Marple.

The Northwest overall will be having more film productions active and filming new and exciting scenes.

Keep an eye on this space.

Sunshine certainly has the old feeling to it but that's just Marple through an through.

Great storyline, top dialogue and not bad acting either.

Poor Bing losing like that...I sure hope he laerns from it and poor old grandad, hope he gets better soon.

If you want to see it again I think the BBC iPlayer is showing it so enjoy!!

COME ON MARPLE!!!!!

Ray of Sunshine lights up Marple
Matthew Davis
8/10/2008

A MARPLE pub had the Hollywood treatment as it became a film set for a new BBC One drama starring Steve Coogan.

The Ring O’Bells pub in Church Lane provided the setting for scenes in Sunshine, a three-part series written by Stockport’s Craig Cash, famed for his BAFTA award-winning The Royle Family.

Pub landlord Peter Clarke, 53, was delighted to welcome film crews into his pub for six weeks back in April and even landed a part with wife Sue as extras.

He said: "It was very exciting we were so pleased they decided to use our pub. They even kept the name of the pub in the script.

"In one line Bernard Hill says to Coogan’s character ‘Fancy going to the Ringers for a pint’."

Sunshine tells the story of three generations of a Manchester family and was filmed in locations around Stockport and Salford, but with a majority of scenes shot in Marple.

Steve Coogan plays Bob ‘Bing’ Crosby, father of young Joe (Dominic Senior), whose addiction to gambling threatens to spiral out of control and end his relationship with despairing partner Bernadette (Lisa Millett).

The Ring O’Bells was used for shots inside and out including a scene where Coogan and his father played by Hill have a pint as well as doubling up as a karaoke bar for another shot.

Other locations used in Marple included All Saints Primary School, the Regent Cinema and the Conservative Club, while many of Peter’s regulars scored parts as extras or had their houses immortalised on film.

He added: "It is great they filmed it in Marple. We had one night when they used our carpark for a scene and it was like a Hollywood film set, I couldn’t believe how many people were working on the programme.

"All the actors were very nice and very focused on their work. We are looking forward to it being on TV and trying to spot all the locals. We are definitely going to have the TVs on in the pub showing it.

"We could end up being as famous as the Woolpack in Emmerdale with coach loads of tourists coming to see where Steve Coogan had a pint."

Sunshine is on Tuesday nights on BBC1 at 9pm.

Locations:  house on Empress Avenue, corner of Church Street
House on East Vale
Marple Canal
Ring O' Bells
Chippie on Goyt Avenue
All Saints Primary School
Marple Conservative Club

I'm sure others will add any more that they've spotted.

I was interested to see the crew arrive, though didn't see anyone that I recognised, cast or crew.  It may be  a good thing for Marple to be seen on the TV, might even give us a bit of a boost economically when people know where it is filmed, help put us on the map!  ;D

Not sure I agree with the Guardian's description:

"It was shot in a nothing-special northern town with rain and war memorials and boozers and betting shops and kind hearts and corny jokes."

I thought Marple and Mellor looked lovely.

The scenery and location spotting certainly made up for the storyline!  Mind you, the actors did well with a banal script!

Sorry Moonforest - you misunderstood me!  I think Marple is great - I have lived here for more than 30 years and think it would take some beating as a place to be.  It was only the script I was criticising - the locations and acting were fine.   :)

I am with Rachel on this - I got through quite a few tissues! And Marple / Mellor / Hazel Grove / Cheadle Hulme etc looked great too! there were a few places I could not pin down - where was the footie pitch and the outside of the pub that wasn't the ringers? And Grandad's house and her flat?

The footie pitch is the playing field behind All Saints primary school, opposite the ringers. I*think* the pub where they went for a date was the back of All Saints church, up the hill. Anyone know where the flats where? Or the black cat club? I thinkt they;re the only two locations we've not actually pinned down, although I did hear they did some filiming in bolton and salford so they could well be up  there

The black cat club is probably not it's real name. Like "East" Vale was altered to "North" Vale.

FLats on windlehurst, yes, that could wel lbe right

black cat club - yes of course, they;ve changed all the names, I was referring to the name used in the series. Stil no idea where it is though

BTW the house Bing shared with his missus was on east vale, as suggested by wolfman's post.

Other locations not yet mentioned:
the Gambler's anonymous meeting was the school below mellor church, which itself featured for the funeral and wedding asnd a couple of scenes in ep 2
the bookies was on Turves road in cheadle hulme (bit of a walk from Empress Ave!)
THe lads in the bin wagon pulled up for lunch on the layby between torkington bends and the birds estate in offerton (offerton road, becomes torkington road)
the doctors scenes were filmed in Marple Cottage surgery
Bing's dad's local was the ringers (sportsmans room?)

Which would make sense as Craig Cash lives around there.

Anyone notice Hollins of Marple (the hardware shop) appearing in White Van Man on BBC3 last night? The chippy next door got a free plug as well. Didn't really enjoy the programme - not my sort of "comedy". Not sure whether it's a compliment to Marple or not....

Yep I saw White Van Man and am very disappointed.

Does anyone remember the crew filming?

It might be a comedy but it just doesn't really make me laugh infact half the time I was admiring Marple in the background ;D.

The jokes were awful and the characters were totally off the mark. There were some good laughs but only some and not all.

The script needs drastic improvement.

You are right about filming in Cheshire, they have filmed a wedding scene at Lyme Park. What is more surprising is that they are filming in a Metropolitan Borough.

It's not, apparently it's called 'The Village'

Sunshine was very good though - I'd watch a 2nd series of that! Watched it in '08 - bought the DVD in '09 - moved to Marple in '10 - recognised a few things, dug out the DVD & sat in amazement as on my TV Steve Coogan was smoking a sausage in my new local chippy !

I'm just curious as to what they would be filming. I saw the original series of the village & am struggling to think what we might uniquely have in Marple that would fit in with where the next series might be going timewise, given I seem to recall the original plan was for this to be a long running drama moving relatively slowly though time so there was the option for quite a few series.

Marple hasn't been a village since the industrial revolution
At Rose Hill Primary School in the 1950s Mr Higson told us that Marple had a population of 29,000 and was officially the largest village in England. (I am merely commenting so don't shoot the messenger.)

It's amazing what "they" can do with a film camera in the most unlikely setting. I can "see" why they could make use of the area from the Regent up to Possett Bridge in a vaguely historical drama.

(An historian speaks) And yes, the 1920s really are "history". A young relative of mine has been doing Scargill's miner's strike for GCSE history! She doesn't know anything about the industrial revolution or the battle of Waterloo but, hey, who needs it?

Canals, locks and waterways possibly?

It's possible, just that there are some closer to where they will be filming other scenes. But perhaps it's easier to set up shop here for that aspect of things

Probably just using it for a couple of scenes.

I think the bulk of filming is being done in Hayfield - noticed the bulk of site facilities trucks that way out...

Filming took place in Marple Bridge this week, in the Methodist church on Cote Green Lane (by Northumberland Arms) for a comedy drama on sky.

Not been on the thread for some time but i'd be surprised if they filmed "The Village" in Marple in June - it was mostly filmed around Hayfield and Edale and is not TV now, so filming in June seems very late.

Anyway the reason I'm looking at this is that Mrs NBT reports they are filming at the Regent Cinema today and I was wondering what it will be...
