4th Green Flag Award

The Friends are delighted that Marple Memorial Park has received a Green Flag Award for 2007/8, its fourth year in a row. The photo below was taken on 25 August 2007, when the Friends of the Park were joined by local councillors to raise the new flag for the first time. See the Task Days page for more photos....

Welcome to the web site of Friends of Marple Memorial Park

We are a group whose aim is to provide opportunities for community members to improve and promote the use of, awareness of and care of facilities within Marple Memorial Park in order to make the park a welcoming, safe and enjoyable environment for all.

To learn more about our aims and objectives take a look at our Constitution.

Background

In October 2003 an open meeting was held in Marple Library to explore the formation of a "Friends" group for Marple's Memorial Park. It was organised by the Community Development Team within the Parks and Recreation Service at Stockport Council and was well attended, demonstrating that there was sufficient interest within the community to support the creation of a "Friends" Group.

At a second community meeting in November 2003 two workshops were undertaken to find out what improvements local people would most like to see. The information provided by these workshops is now being used to shape the activities of the Friends of Marple Memorial Park.

To see a full report on these meetings and the results of the workshops read the Community Meeting Report.

On-line Survey..Have your say..

People who did not attend the workshops can still identify what they think is important and influence the activities of the Friends by filling in the workshop exercises on-line.
