Dear Jenny,

Re: Iron Bridge, Brabyns Park, Marple

Further to our telephone conversation on Friday 2 November regarding the possible need to apply for grants to fund the restoration of the Iron Bridge in Brabyns Park, please find attached a document detailing the relevant facts I have been able to obtain from the Heritage Lottery Fund web site.

There is a great deal of information contained within this document about the type of projects that can be funded by the HLF, plus the processes of applying for a grant.

The main key points in relation to our discussion are:

· Application for a grant CANNOT be made by an individual, it must be made by a non-profit making community group.

· An application CAN be made by a Local Authority.

· For a project of over £100,000, only 75% of the total cost can be provided.

The document also includes information about recent applications in the Northwest (a significant number of which are by Local Authorities), frequently asked questions and contact details for the Northwest Regional Committee.

There is further information available on the HLF site at www.hlf.org.uk, but I have extracted all of that which I believe is applicable to the restoration of the Iron Bridge. Hopefully this will save you some time during your own investigations into this matter.

We look forward to hearing from you in the next couple of weeks, when we hope to learn how further progress can be made.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Whittaker,
For the Marple Website.
