Iron Bridge Restoration Project Announcement

We are delighted to announce that the Iron Bridge Restoration Project Group's application to the Heritage Lottery Fund, submitted in May 2003, has been successful and we've been awarded a Project Planning Grant of £30,150 for the first phase of the project.

This is the culmination of 2 years campaigning, fund-raising, planning and preparation for members of the Group, which is a partnership between Stockport Council, The Marple Website and Marple Local History Society.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us to get this far, including all the people who signed the petition, wrote letters of support and those who've helped with fund-raising activities. Thanks also to the organisations, businesses and individuals who've donated money or offered their services in so many different ways.

The award of this grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund is a huge step forward for our campaign, now entering a new phase as a project. In recognition of this we've started a brand new chapter in our diary to continue keeping visitors up to date with progress.

Of course there's still a long way to go before the bridge is restored to its former glory so, if you'd like to offer your help in anyway, please get in touch with us using the details on the contact us page.
