Looking for anyone who might recognize the following, and inviting you to get in touch. I went to Rose Hill Primary School and was then transferred to the Dale when it first opened. Went to Marple Hall Grammar School for Girls from 1970-77. Some names: Mrs. Greenwood, Miss Davies, Miss Shaw, Mrs. Hughes, Janet Greaves, Saranne Jones, and Carole Gabbutt (now Uske); together we giggled our way through Viva Mexico and The Pirates of Penzance, and later became Mrs. Wrigley's worst nightmare in A-level German. I've been living in Mexico City for 18 years, but go back every couple of years or so to visit my brother Peter and family in Rose Hill. Thanks for this opportunity to write; congratulations for a great site. Marple was definitely the best place in the world to grow up in, and "home" will always be there.

mARPLE ROCKS! I've lived there since the summer of '88, and...oh booy,
the joy we all shared. I propose that on the 20th July at 12:00pm we
have a minutes silent just to remember, just to appreciate, what it is
to be a Marpolian. Canals, Greggs, the Shopping Giant, Timmy Mallet,
and just good ol, spliff smoking fun..COOOOOOMMEEE ON!!!!

I have been a resident of Marple now for 3 years after buying my first house here. Whilst I'm glad to have all the outstanding beauty of the surrounding countryside at weekends, I'm becoming increasing dismayed at the decline of central Marple itself - I should know as I'm an SK6 resident. There are several shop units now unoccupied adjacent to the Cinema and I have recently discovered that, on retirement of one of it's Solicitors, the Prickett Partnership are now closing their premises in Marple too.

That's not all, what about nightime facilities? If Mark Whittaker's Marple pub guide is to be believed the Jolly Sailor and Bowling Green public houses are thriving businesses... for building developers maybe! The nightlife in Marple is only salvaged by 2 or 3 establishments i.e. The Edge Restaurant, Murillo's and the Crown (the later being marred by recent events) but generally you'll find more life in Mellor Cemetery and I'm finding that I increasing have to travel for a decent evening out.

I enjoyed looking at The Photos old and new and all the historical information. I find it a very interesting website. It brings back a lot of memories from my childhood as we visited Marple frequently from 1947 until about 1953.

Well I never! Marple with a website.
I am from Marple (and proud of it)
I went to RHCP as well (left in 1969).
I recognise most of the people in Martins photo (Nick Gorman, Phillip/Peter Webb, Phillip Pownall, Tammy Bradford, Peter Smethurst, Phillip Steel, Leslie Milner, Matthew and Alistair Perkins, Sally Black, Miles Starkey, Peter Greenwood, Chris Owen,Alan Poynton, Valerie and Wendy at the back, Susan Millington,Aurial Bullock, Margaret Jacques, Nick Gorman, Peter Whitlock, ME 2nd on the right- 2nd row up with the flowery dress (LOL). I remember that Pump (I had it once with Robert Molloy for snapping Mr G's Ruler in the Hall) Though I think you got me mixed up with my sister Georgina Bradshaw. Went to Woodville Secondary Modern for Young Ladies (as it was called then HaHa) chatted to the lads over the field (LOL) I live on the Wirral now and am an IT Teacher for a Big Hospital.

Anyone interested in getting in touch email me.

Mark, I've finally got 'on the net'. Our village web site is as brilliant as I expected thanks to you and all you efforts. Well done.
Now I can also communicate with DB without dragging all the way to Anglesey. Cheers.

Just found this site which is very interesting. I was born in Compstall and lived there until I was 6 years old when the family moved to Guernsey in the Channel Islands. I now live in Sidmouth, East Devon. I have been back to Compstall and Marple Bridge quite often over the years and it is always a delight to see the old place which has not changed much from when I was a kid. I have not returned for a few years but hoping to visit again in Spring this year. Had a great pal when I was a kid called Allan Naylor whose father was an electrician in Compstall. If anybody sees this message who knows Allan Naylor ask him to get in touch and it would be great to hear from him. Still have photos of myself and my late Sister Cathy when we were very small in some sort of Panto in Compstall. Regards to all. Doubt if anyone will remember me or my family but if you do-get in touch.

Ran out of space in last posting (Dec. 31st 2001), but basically all that was cut off was the query--"so how WAS Rev. James Beard Clayton's bro-in-law, and are there Beard family roots in Marple/Mellor area that could tie him in?" Thanks to Patrick Callaghan for his hint about his house: it establishes Beards there, but I need to push it back a bit. All the best from an exiled Yorkshireman--Frank E.
