Marple Food and Drink Festival

Marple has a fine range of fresh food shops unrivalled in the area. We also have an ever improving range of good restaurants, pubs and cafes. Through the Marple Food and Drink Festival we want celebrate this high quality food and drink that we have in Marple and district.

The centerpiece will be a Local Food Market in Market Street, Marple on 22 September. There will be fresh, local meat, fresh fish, locally baked bread, fruit and veg from the North West, delicious deli food including fine cheese, health foods and fine wines and beers. The local pubs, restaurants and cafes will all be featuring Festival related menus and activities in the week running up to 22 September. There will even be a quiz with a foodie emphasis at the Ring o' Bells on Wed 19 September.

The main event will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 22nd and the Mayor will be in Market Street at 11 o'clock to officially open the Festival. The horse drawn dray of Robinson's Brewery, one of the event's main sponsors, will also be there. Schools are involved through a light-hearted competition to grow the largest pumpkin and the largest sunflower.

The 14 stands in Market Street will be occupied by the following exhibitors:

Stand 1 D and S White Butchers
Hot "gourmet" sausage and burger range.
Stand 2 Stockport Primary Care Trust
Healthy eating advice plus schools sunflower and pumpkin display.
Stand 3 Greenhaigh's
Craft bakery with their own breads, pies and savouries.
Stand 4 Deli Select
With a huge range of unusual cheeses.
Stand 5 Marple Health food shop
Wide range of honeys, cereals, dried fruits, teas, grains etc.
Stand 6 Friends of Marple Memorial Park
Raising funds towards new equipment for the Infants' Play Area in Memorial Park.
Stand 7 The Marple Website / Marple Promotions
Displays about the Iron Bridge and Friends of Marple Memorial Park's activities and selling the web site's new 'vintage' 2008 calendar to raise funds for the Infants' Play Area.
Stand 8 Andrew Arms, Compstall
With their proud range of homemade pies and wine samples.
Stand 9 Marple & District Allotment Association
Practical advice on how to grow your own healthy food.
Stand 10 Marple Fish of Fleetwood
Tony Warwick with wide selection of shellfish and samples to try.
Stand 11 Rolling Pin
Bakers and confectioners, with own breads, pies and biscuits.
Stand 12 Puruga Restaurant
With samples of own gourmet food including desserts and canapes along with Champagne.
Stand 13 Littlewoods Butchers
With locally-sourced meat and poutry, and samples of sausage, steak, lamb and pork to try.
Stand 14 Toast delicatessen
Coffee shop and wine bar with relish, chutneys, honeys and cheeses.
