NEWSFLASH!
Update 7 March 2002
Earlier this week the transfer of the Marple Website to the server of our new
host, Hosting4u, was completed. We are grateful to Steve and Alastair at
Hosting4u for all the help and support they've provided during the transfer and
we look forward to a long and successful arrangement with them. Hopefully we
will now be able to continue the improvement and growth of the site without
further concerns over the quality of service we will receive.
Update 23 February 2002
A new forum has now been set up on a server provided by the company who will be
hosting the Marple Website once the transfer of the site is completed. This
should now be reliable and we can hopefully get down to the business of posting
messages without any further worries that the board is going to fail again.
Follow this link to take a look or use the links on the main site homepage, which have now been reactivated.
Update 21 February 2002
Well that didn't last long. More problems with my current host mean that the new
forum has gone too for the moment. I've now initiated the move to a new web
host. Watch this space for more news as it happens.
Update 19 February 2002
A new style of forum is on trial. This has been recommended to me by several
different people and although I didn't take to it straight away, it's starting
to grow on me. I hope you'll give it a good test and help me to decide if I
should stick with it, or go back to the old system after the site has been moved
to a new host.
9 February 2002.
Regular visitors will know that
the Marple Website has recently been experiencing reliability problems with the
service provided by the company that has hosted the site for the last 3 years.
On Thursday 7 February 2002 the full content of the site was wiped from their
server without warning or explanation.
It has been possible to reinstate the main web site, although it is uncertain how long it will remain on-line with the current host. Unfortunately the forum and noticeboard and the classified ads were web based features and the full content of these has been lost. In addition, the scripts required to run these services have also been wiped and they cannot currently be reinstated.
This is a very disappointing situation and raises a new and unexpected challenge to the ongoing effort to continually improve the site. You can rest assured that we will rise to this challenge and find a new host who is able to provide us with the support and reliability that we deserve.
It is likely that the web site will be unavailable for a period in the near future while we relocate to a new host. Please be patient with us during this period and keep checking back to discover the latest situation and continue to give us the support you have done in the past.
If you would like to be added to a mailing list to be kept informed of developments, or if you have any other comments you would like to make, please e-mail me at mark@marple-uk.com , or in the event of problems with that address, try mj.whittaker@ntlworld.com
Thanks to those of you who have sent messages of encouragement and support already, they fuel our enthusiasm and make the effort worthwhile.
