Marple Writers
Workshop

The group started in 1986 as a class run by the Workers Educational Association. Such was the popularity of the meetings that we very soon decided to become a free standing group. Currently there are 30 names on our membership list.

Meetings are friendly and informal and take various forms.

We invite visiting speakers - these have included poets, novelists, a publisher, and recently a screenplay writer.

We do not feel the need to have a Committee, and small teams of members volunteer to run workshops, which inspire and stimulate the group to write at home as well as in the workshops themselves.

No one is ever required to share their writing unless they are happy to do so, and abilities range from interested beginners, to winners of national short story and poetry competitions.

The group anthology, "Inklings" is published from time to time and has been favourably reviewed in Writers Monthly.

Current membership fees are £10 twice a year, at Easter and in September, and new attendees are invited to spend up to three free evenings with us before they join officially.

We meet on Tuesday evenings at 7.15pm (for a 7.30 start) in the upstairs room of Marple Library.
