Marple Transport Society holds regular monthly meetings on a variety of different transport subjects to which all are welcome.

Our meetings are held at The Marple Social Forces Club on Lime Kiln Lane, Marple, SK6 6BX and usually take place on the second Wednesday of each Month between September and May starting at 8pm.

We normally have an illustrated talk from a guest speaker, but the December meeting is traditionally our annual pre-Christmas Transport Quiz, and the January meeting gives our members a chance to show their own transport slides.

As well as the more regular railway, bus and canal subjects we have covered a wide range of topics over the years including car rallying, the history of stagecoaches and the experiences of a Manchester Ship Canal diver.

In addition to the monthly meetings, we organise occasional visits to both local and national sites of transport interest.

The society was formed in 1979 and met for the first year met at the Norfolk Arms in Marple Bridge. The West Towers Hotel in Marple (now Almonds) was our home for many years before moving to the Navigation Hotel in 1997 and then the Social Forces Club in 2103.

Our typical attendance is about 20, and we charge an annual membership of £4, plus a small meeting charge to cover room hire.

We look forward to welcoming any new members or guests to our meetings.
