Marple Moments - Marple's Own Musical Entertainments

After many years without a musical society, Marple now has a brand-new home-grown company.  Under the baton of Musical Director, Debbie Woodruff, ‘Moments’ perform musical revues at the Carver Theatre, Marple.

Moments first performance was A Grand Night for Singing, a rearranged collection of some of the best-known melodies of Rodgers & Hammerstein from hugely successful shows such as Oklahoma, King & I, Sound of Music and Carousel. A Grand Night for Singing has become a much-acclaimed Broadway show in its own right. Debbie, formerly Musical Director of Marple Operatic Society and Hyde Light Opera, proposed A Grand Night for Singing and after a hugely successful run of shows at the Carver Theatre, Marple, the group performed A Grand Night several more times around the area, raising over £5000 for charity.

Martyn Preston, from Bredbury, has accepted the post of Director. His credentials are excellent; Martyn has been performing on local stages most of his life and was awarded ‘Best Director’ at the Manchester Music awards in March 2010 for his work on Sweet Charity with Ashton Operatic Society.

Unlike ‘conventional’ local musical societies, the costs of whose productions are extremely high (theatre hire, costumes, orchestra hire, payment of producers, musical directors and choreographers), this venture involves very modest costs.  Everyone involved gives their time on an unpaid basis, and all net profits are donated to charity.
